Marijo Samneh Quote 4

Dear Managers,
Knowledge capital, and capabilities including the company’s human capital are the most important types of assets to build a competitive advantage. Therefore invest in your people, help them grow, and never make them feel they work for you.

Marijo Samneh Quote 6

By definition, favouritism refers to a situation where an individual in a leadership position demonstrates preferential treatment to one employee in comparison to others, for reasons unrelated to performance.

The effects of favouritism are detrimental in the workplace. It creates discouragement amongst employees because of the lack of correlation between hard work and success.

Favouritism becomes more offending and frustrating when the manager holds a secret (love) relationship with the protege.

In case you are one, just be aware that the whole company knows about you.
They don’t confront you, simply because you are higher in the hierarchy, not because they respect you!

Marijo Samneh Quotes 11

Most employees quit their jobs not because of their poor performance at work, but because of their managers. However, the responsibility doesn’t lie on direct managers alone, but rather on the poor management system of the firm that is not addressing the problems and concerns of its employees effectively.

Marijo Samneh Quote 7

Be the CEO your mother wanted you to marry!

As we celebrate women entrepreneurs’ day, I can’t help but think about the huge amount of pressure women still face to get married to someone successful, especially in this part of the world.

I still remember how my parents used to make fun of me because I studied a lot, specifically during the time I was conducting my master’s degrees.

They thought it was pointless for me to continue my education as I already got my law degree, and that it would be much better to focus on marrying a successful man to secure my future, let alone the society around me!

I only got married at the age of 31, and I did it not because of all the pressure I was put under, but because I was convinced that if it wasn’t him, it won’t be anyone else.

I always insisted on being my own source of strength, instead of looking for it somewhere else.

To all the young ladies reading this post, you can surely be that CEO they all wanted you to rely on. You can be the powerful person they all want you to hide behind.

She’s so lucky – by Marijo Samneh

“She is so lucky!

In reality, it looks more like:

🗣 She never quit, even when it got too challenging.
🤓 She worked late nights and long week ends to get closer to her goals.
⛹‍♀️ She overcame her limits, in the face of the people who doubted her.
💪 She learned from her mistakes instead of surrendering to them.
👩‍🎓 She invested in herself, especially in education.

Hard working women are often labeled as “lucky.”
However, why don’t we pause for a moment and think, “she’s the one who created her own luck.”

Marijo Samneh Quote 8

The biggest danger facing an organization is when their most passionate elements lose interest.

The passionate elements of an organization are its key to success. The danger is when the passionate ones lose their passion or motivation… for any reason!

Therefore a message to all leaders: do whatever it takes to keep your team motivated, otherwise you will lose the glow and victory you are currently witnessing.

Marijo Samneh Quote 9

Dear Chairpersons and CEOs,

Hiring people based on your personal interest or influencing the management into hiring them is not acceptable.

The act of influencing starts by throwing a name to a subordinate, especially if you surround yourself with “yes men”.

Hiring is a bottom-up procedure, not top down.

Bear in mind two things:

1. These people you’re hiring will negatively impact the institution, because of the frustration they create among colleagues, especially if they don’t have enough decency to stay silent about their way of getting in. Let alone when they happen to be bullies who threaten colleagues of firing them in your name. (Corridor talks of “I am very close to Mr. X or my father is his best friend” is an implicit way of threatening.)

2. When you disrespect the rules, you provide everyone around you with an excuse to do the same.

So, be mindful of the above before preaching about corporate governance in public.

Payable Through Account – by Marijo Samneh

Payable Through Account (PTA) – In a Nutshell

In some correspondent relationships, the respondent bank’s customers are permitted to conduct their own transactions, directly with the correspondent bank, without clearing these transactions through the respondent bank. These arrangements are called Payable Through Accounts (PTA)

PTA activities are very High Risk Correspondent Services that requires strengthened Due Diligence and Compliance monitoring. Banks that have an AML program will not permit these types of practices.

However, banks still want to make sure that other banks they deal with do not offer it. They can get confirmation of this via a yes/no question on their AML questionnaire.
